Running became popular in the United States during World War I, and it became popular because of the great benefits of running for physical fitness. The "2017 World Health Statistics" reported a data: the total number of deaths due to diseases in 2015 was about 56 million, of which about 40 million people died of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), accounting for 70%. Cardiovascular disease accounted for 45% of deaths in NCDs. The benefits of running for cardiorespiratory fitness are well established.

In 2013, the number of people participating in various running events in the United States reached 17 million. Considering the population of more than 300 million in the United States, this data is quite amazing. However, statistics show that since 2015, the number of people going to the gym to participate in strength training has exceeded the number of people participating in running competitions for the first time.

The U.S. Department of Health and the Department of Agriculture jointly released the eighth edition (2015-2020) of the Healthy Dietary Guidelines for Americans. According to the DHHS' Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans, adults need at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity per week, with strength-strengthening activity on two or more days per week. Children ages 6-17 need at least 60 minutes of physical activity per day, including aerobic, muscle-strengthening, and bone-strengthening exercises. Here, DHHS emphasizes the need for strength training, even for children. At present, the physical education subject of the high school entrance examination in our country includes pull-ups as one of the compulsory examination contents, which is very necessary and scientific.
